Family Dinner Fiesta Lime and Tequila Shrimp Tacos

Fiesta tacos yes please! Love love love this recipe because it is fun, delicious, of course easy, and seriously great for a party or fiesta. I know that tacos have been getting a lot of love lately because of social media and the famous Taco Tuesdays, but they really are a wonderful meal. The options of preparation are endless, the flavors you can add are bountiful, and they make for a meal to be prepared and enjoyed with others. Also it is a complete meal in one. There is no need to make anything else for the meal, making this a balanced dish. 

One aspect that I really enjoy teaching families, kids, and you all that read this (thank you for reading) is the importance of sitting down together at the table and sharing a meal together. This is a critical aspect of eating well, eating healthy, and feeling satisfied with a meal. The more we eat alone or unfocused or lack of mindfulness when we eat the more we tend to eat and the more junk we will eat. I don't know about you, but I definitely don't want to eat more and eat junk. Preparing a meal with or for your family and friends makes for a more balanced and healthy meal.

Yields 2 servings 

Time 20 minutes 


3/4 lb wild caught shrimp - peeled and deveined 

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon ground cumin 

2 Tablespoons tequila 

1/2 cup Red cabbage and or coleslaw mix 

2 haas avocados - sliced 

Corn Tortillas 


2 Tablespoons olive oil

1/4 teaspoon sea salt 

1/8 teaspoon black pepper 


1. Season shrimp with salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Squeeze 1 Tablespoon of lime juice over the shrimp. 

2. Heat a skillet pan with olive oil over medium heat. Once hot add the shrimp and saute for about 3-4 minutes when the side of the shrimp that is touching the pan begins to turn pink. Then flip the shrimp and carefully add the tequila. Let the alcohol cook off for about 3-4 minutes. Once the shrimp have cooked squeeze a bit more lime juice on top. 

3. To prepare your tacos add cabbage or coleslaw in the corn tortilla. Top with some slices of avocado and the tequila shrimp. Garnish with cilantro and jalapenos if you would like.
