Cinnamon Sugar Spiced Donuts


A rainy morning like today (or really any day... haha!) is one you stay in bed cozy with a coffee  and these deliciously baked spiced donuts. Then for an afternoon sweet treat with a warm herbal or chai tea these cinnamon sugar donuts are just the perfect pairing. They are moist, filled with warm fall spices and much better for you than fried donuts. The cake like texture is delicious. So I am not a big fan of fried donuts. Growing up when I slept over my cousins house on a Saturday night, every Sunday morning without a doubt my uncle would bring us donuts. I have always have a chocolate sweet tooth so I would reach for the chocolate glazed donuts with sprinkles. If you were to put a box in front of me now I would still reach for that flavor of fried donuts. But I don't care much for the greasy mouth coat donuts leave you with. I prefer a lighter cake light donut now that my palate has matured. You can taste the flavors better. Not only are the baked donuts better for you, but you can taste all the delicious cinnamon spice and the wonderful light fluffy texture of the baked donuts. 

The autumn and cool weather make these cinnamon sugar spiced donuts a perfect way to start the weekend. They are a delicious indulgence that warms your soul and your tummy. This recipe is very simple to make so you can make them on a lazy cozy Sunday morning. Cuddling up on the couch with the warmth of your home and the smells from the kitchen of the warming cinnamon spice fills your house with with happiness. I love when the delicious smells of a kitchen fill a home. Thinking about it puts a smile on my face. So enjoy a batch of these Cinnamon Sugar Spiced Donuts on a cozy cool weekend. 

Yields 6 servings of 1 donut


1/3 cup sugar 

1/2 cup +3 tablespoons all purpose flour 

1 large egg

1/4 cup whole milk

4 tablespoons unsalted butter- melted and cooled

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground all spice

1/4 teaspoon ground mace 

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom 

Cinnamon Spice Sugar Coating:

1/4 cup cane sugar 

Repeat all the same measurements for the spices. 


1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease the donut tray. 

2. In a small bowl whisk together all the dry ingredients. 

3. In a separate bowl add all the wet ingredients. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well to incorporate.

4. Evenly pour the batter in each donut mold. Bake for 15-18 minutes. 

5. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes before flipping them out of the pan. 

6. While still warm coat the donuts with the cinnamon spiced sugar mixture.
